Today I was at Walmart rooting through the $5 DVD bin and this guy about my age who sounded like he might have been from Bermuda came and started rooting through the bin. He said, "I love searching through these bins because you never know what you might find."

I said "I notice you use the same technique. Scan the top layer of DVDs then dig down to the bottom, grab a handful of buried DVDs then bring them to the top and look through them". He joked it was like digging for treasure.

Then I found a copy of Magnificent Seven and I remarked how much I liked that movie and he said he loved it too. Then I told him, "It's funny because there's a cultural phenomenon that we all experience but it has no word for it. It's when you're switching TV channels and you come across a movie you love, and you even have on DVD, but instead of putting the DVD in and watching the movie from the beginning you stop changing the channels and watch it right from where you caught it."

He said "Yes! Yes! I do that too with certain movies!"

I told him that The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Bridge over the River Kwai, the first Ghostbusters (but not GB:2) and ST:TWOK are some of the movies I do this to whenever I stumble upon them while channel surfing and he told be about some of the movies he does this with.

Then just before we parted he said "I am so glad I ran into you and had this conversation. I thought I was the only person who does that."
